SPIRIT OF THE MOUNTAIN CLUSTER HISTORY

St. Therese Catholic Church, St. Paul, Virginia, was erected and dedicated on August 12, 1951.

Good Shepherd Catholic Church was erected in Lebanon, Virginia, in 1962-65 and dedicated August 28, 1966, becoming clustered and sharing a priest with St. Therese Catholic Church in St. Paul.

St. Mary in Coeburn, erected and dedicated August 7, 1955, had been a mission church of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Norton, VA; however in 2003, Father Robert Krenik was assigned as the priest for St. Mary, St. Therese, and Good Shepherd, changing the cluster configuration.

Shortly thereafter, when Father Mike Herbert was assigned to pastor the cluster, he asked parishioners to choose a cluster name. “Spirit of the Mountain Cluster” was the name chosen for the cluster as a whole.
