Christian Formation

Christian formation is the lifelong process of growing in our relationship with God, self, others, and all creation. Every experience in our lives can provide us with the opportunity to express our faith; the challenge we face is recognizing these opportunities and learning ways to live a sometimes countercultural life in a secular world.

Because Christ has the power to change lives, this Cluster is committed to the Christian education of all its members: adults, children, and youth. The parish also welcomes those who are searching for a spiritual home, and who would like to join the Catholic Church.

Adult Religious Education

Ongoing religious education is part of being a disciple of Jesus Christ. For this reason, the Church believes that religious education is a lifelong endeavor. At this time there are no learning opportunities available. If you are interested in forming a group, please contact the church office with details.

A large supply of books are available at the Cluster library in Lebanon, VA. Interested parties should contact the church office.

Children Religious Education

By virtue of Baptism, parents are the primary teachers of the Christian faith to their children.

Thank you for allowing us to partner with you in the religious upbringing of your children. We are here to help and support you in the role as primary educators of your children. This is a great responsibility but one that brings an amazing grace from God. Please feel free to contact us so we can be of assistance to you. Materials are available.

Youth

The Sacrament of Confirmation completes the grace of Baptism with a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Strengthened in this way, a confirmed Catholic is joined more closely to the Church, and is empowered to be a more effective witness of the Lord Jesus Christ.

In the Diocese of Richmond, Confirmation is normally received during tenth grade, and requires that students attend religious education classes. The sacrament can be received at other times as well, according to the circumstances of each young person.

At this time there are no specific youth classes; however, if you have a need, please send your request to the church office.

Becoming a Catholic

Saint Augustine of Hippo eloquently described the relentless human quest for God: “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you.”

The Catholic Church believes that the meaning and purpose of life are found in Jesus Christ: “I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). Furthermore, the fullness of Christ resides in the Catholic Church: in her doctrine, sacraments, and moral teachings.

The Cluster invites all who are searching for greater happiness to explore the Catholic faith. For those who wish to join the Church, a period of prayer, learning, and preparation is available. This Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) normally begins in January and leads to the reception of the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist) at Easter (March / April).
